Nanobioelectronics & Biosensors Group

The research at Nanobioelectronics & Biosensors Group is focused on the integration of biological molecules (DNA, antibodies, enzymes) into micro- and nanostructures, with state-of-the-art bioelectronic read-out systems, extracting useful analytical signals with interest for various fields. Nanotechnology based biosensors are the product of this integration with great interest for several applications that aim at a significant improve of the quality and security of citizen’s life.

Nanotechnology based biosensors represent a novel generation of biosensors in the cutting edge technologies such as biotechnology and nanotechnology. In the medical diagnostics area, nanotechnology-based biosensors could be used, for example, to replace more costly and tedious laboratory methods for monitoring a patient's blood for proteins, chemicals, and pathogens. The group represents an interdisciplinary team based on the expertise gained developing electrochemical biosensors based on nanomaterials, to develop novel, rapid-response biosensors selective for targeted chemical and biological molecules. Our research aims to be the driving force for analytical oriented applications of current nanotechnology and nanoscience research.

Novel nanomaterials for biosensors applications along with novel biosensor designs with interest for health protection, environmental monitoring and industry applications are being developed.

Several collaborating with international and national groups working in the field of nanotechnology and nanoscience, molecular biology, materials, inorganic and organic chemistry, electronics etc. are established and new ones are very welcomed in the future.

The laboratories are located at Autonomous University of Barcelona , partly at the Group of Sensors & Biosensors (GSB) .
